The Last of the Gods

Thanks for always having English captions for your western audience. We greatly appreciate it!

I first learned about softshell turtle preparation from Shokugeki no Soma, so it’s very exciting to see Masaru-san prepare one!

I think he’s very right in saying that you should watch if you eat animals as this is the process that goes on behind every bit of meat you eat on a daily basis. It’s good he does it in a quick humane way.
Edit: I love the absolute chaos I’ve just caused

Always love your videos! Even though the turtle was cute, we eat cute things like pigs and cows all the time, so people shouldn’t be as put off by it as they are.

Masaru out of nowhere: “i know you’d feel a little attached to the turtle…

But I’m gonna filet it 🙂”

😭👌 Okay, I’m ready, go ahead

マサルさんも動画内で言ってるけど魚でも動物でも「肉を食べるってこういうこと」ってことをもっと伝えていくべきと思う。この動画見て改めて命に感謝したいと思った。

I grew up in the south where we ate turtle all the time all I can say is a turtle has 5 different types of meat and there all over the body no one part tastes the same as the part next to it. in reality it’s just varying amounts of dark meat so the muscle mister turtle used the most have different levels of dark meat like a chicken having dark meat legs only on a turtle it 5 times worse and spread all over there really fun to eat

It is sad to see the turtle die, but I trust that Masaru gave him a quick death so he felt no pain. It is important to show were our food co.we from and what we have to do to get it. Thank you Masaru!

Here in the US, especially in the southeastern part of it, people occassionally eat alligator snapping turtles… Perhaps finding a way to get one there to show on the channel would be interesting, especially since they’re supposed to be really good fried!

He is the most respectful fisherman I’ve ever seen. His food preparation is so informed but also interesting and full of emotion. I live in the west where our food is very monocultural and we don’t eat many different kinds of fish, so this channel is largely all I have to educate myself, but I’m grateful because it’s the best channel 🙂 🐟❤

I think it’s great that he collects as much ediable meat as possible and uses a meal to it’s fullest without wasting. A true hunter respects nature.

Hi Masaru!

Animal Scientist here, I love wacthing your videos. The respect you have for the lives you take is amazing to see. You go above and beyond in making your videos fun, educational/informational, and touching on morality as well. Though I work very closely with animals, I still love watching these and find I don’t ever flinch or feel upset. This is the cycle and process of life and I am grateful that you share it with us. Thank you for reminding us of the things we take for granted every day, and for respecting the animal by learning about it and using all its parts possible

Much love from the U.S

Masaru was indeed too excited to ear the turtle’s leg. He even reminisced how the crocodile leg tasted like a dinosaur. 😂😂😂😂 If only dinosaurs were alive, pretty sure you’ll fillet some too, Masaru!

I’m a vegetarian who became so because they love animals and would rather see them alive.

Yet, I know the realities of life. Things die and are eaten by others; plants included.

Awesome video, Masaru!

I think what made watching the turtle get filleted harder than watching a fish get filleted is the fact that the turtle could blink

I started watching your channel because I was interested in what different things tasted like from the sea. What you said about people killing our food for us hit a chord for me too. Thank you for the content!

I love how respectful Masaru is when killing and preparing the turtle, and I agree with him that everyone who eats meat should watch this video. Not because it’s shocking and you should “reconsider your diet”, but because it’s a reminder of how precious that meat is; it’s a life that has been taken, after all.

Thank you for another amazing video! I admit that I did get attached to the turtle, but the way you prepared it with so much care made the process very interesting to watch!

I love how respectful he is to everything he prepares and I really had no issue the entire video at all I just felt a little bad because his poor little head was in the corner of the cutting board and if whoever believes in fools believes in souls he could’ve been washing his poor little body getting chopped up that’s the only that’s the only thing I was like oh no poor little turtle but I love masaru he’s such a good person and I love his channel and I love everything that he does he’s such a respectful person I hope he keeps doing what he’s doing

I did get attached to the very cute turtle! 🥺 But you’re right–if we eat meat, we should understand where it comes from and how we get it. I also love that you recover as much meat as possible and that you’re respectful in the process.

Great content as always, Masaru!

I absolutely respect what you’ve done here, Masaru. This is a part of life. It’s either we face the facts and continue to eat animals, or people become vegan/vegetarian and change what they eat. This is just the reality of being an omnivorous creature 😭

Thank you Masaru. I found that oddly hard to watch which caused me to seriously think about what you said and you are right. At first I was all “Oh no, poor turtle!” because I have a pet tortoise myself but then I remembered that I also have pet fish and never think “Oh no, poor fish!” when you spear, kill and cook a fish. It’s rare for a YouTube clip to make one confront your own morality and a valuable thing to see when you do. All my best respects from England.

It is always good to see the respect you have towards the food you’re preparing. Most of us will never know what it is like to dispatch animals for our own meals, and your videos are a reminder that all foods come from somewhere. Keep up the great work!

I really love that it’s gotten to a point that Masaru’s village will be like “Hey bro, you’re the one who likes to eat weird shit right? Here I got a side quest for you”

with how open he is to eating anything, at this point i think it’s safe to say that he’s never going to run out of aquatic life to eat

i like how he explicitly points out how this blood can have hepatitis, and is like “so apparently it’s super risky, but im gonna pretend i can’t read and drink it anyways.”
how this man is still alive is beyond me.

When I was younger my great grandma wanted turtle (In the south we call them “cooters”) so bad and one ended up wondering into our yard. We fed him cornbread until the water in the bucket ran clear and then he was ready too eat. I’ll never forget the sound of the shell being ripped off, it sounded like Velcro. It even had eggs inside the shell. I never tasted it but it was a real experience for me and my cousins.

Apparently, there’s a traditional, multi-course meal made of just a softshell turtle. I wonder if Masaru knows how to prepare it?

Great video, as always! Love that you continuously remind us, the viewers, the reality of eating, as well as appreciation of meat.

Whoever doing the JP-EN translation has superb understanding of both language and it’s not often you encounter youtube channel that provide such high quality translation, even officials musicians video isn’t as precise as Masaru’s channel.

I teared up a little when the turtle was killed and at that moment Masaru acknowledged it’s hard not to feel anything. I’m grateful I get to watch this video to remind me how I’m able to eat delicious meat from all kinds of animals. I remember reading once that even if you don’t believe in a religious sense, it’s still important to acknowledge the animal died so you can continue living. That kind of mindfulness makes me appreciate my life.
